CDSBEO Celebrates the Official Blessing of St. Francis de Sales Catholic School
The Catholic school community of St. Francis de Sales Catholic School gathered on Tuesday, May 28, to officially bless new St. Francis de Sales Catholic School.
The blessing was presided by the Most Reverend Brendan O’Brien, Archbishop Emeritus of the Archdiocese of Kingston, with Fr. Rod McNeil assisting with the blessing of the facility. Students, and staff were joined by members of the Board of Trustees, senior administration, and dignitaries. Representatives from the architectural firm Edward J. Cuhaci and Associates Architects and Ruiter Construction were also in attendance.
“Our blessing is first of all an expression of gratitude and praise, but it’s not only that – to bless is also to dedicate this facility in the service of Catholic education,” noted Archbishop Emeritus, Brendan O’Brien in his homily.
He continued, “Because Catholic education is about educating the whole person, it is not simply education from which faith is cut of from life. So by blessing this school, we are reminded of the purpose for which is was constructed.”
Chair Lalonde noted that it was an amazing day for the Board, and for Catholic education.
“With a bright common area, innovative technology and modern classroom design, this school offers students the opportunity to learn in an exceptional environment, and for this we are very grateful. In addition, with the inclusion of the childcare centre and EarlyON services, the school is a community hub for the town of Smith Falls, and many have the opportunity to benefit from this unique partnership.”
