Catholic Student Trustee Sworn-In for 2019-2020
The Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario is pleased to announce that Josephine Purcell, a grade 12 student at St. Mary Catholic High School in Brockville, has been installed as the next Catholic Student Trustee for the CDSBEO. Purcell has assumed the position from Michael Fenn, who served for the 2018-2019 school year.
“On behalf of the Board of Trustees, we are pleased to welcome Trustee Purcell,” noted CDSBEO Chair Todd Lalonde. “We know that she will make an outstanding contribution as the voice for all CDSBEO students, and we look forward to working with her this year.”Trustee Purcell was elected to the position in April by the Student Senate.
“I am delighted to be given the opportunity to fill the role of Catholic Student Trustee for the fast approaching 2019-2020 school year. While working with the Board of Trustees I wish to provide a diverse group of student perspectives to benefit the CDSBEO as we grow, moving forward into the gratifying future of education.”
As Catholic Student Trustee, Josephine Purcell will represent the more than 12,800 students across the Board. She will lead the Student Senate, which is made up of representatives from all CDSBEO secondary schools. The Senate discusses student issues, gathers student opinion, and helps to develop communications with all students across the CDSBEO. It also provides a means for student council leaders and senators to gain leadership skills.
In addition to serving on the Board of Trustees and the Catholic Student Senate, Trustee Purcell will have the opportunity to meet other student trustees, and trustees from across the province.
