Message to Our Families
We are excited to welcome your child back to school for the 2022-2023 school year, and while we look with great joy to the restoration of learning, activities, and in person classes, we are still mindful that we continue to be in a COVID-19 landscape. We hope that the following information helps you prepare your child for the new school year.
As in the spring, we continue to be a mask friendly school and work environment for individuals who choose to wear and not to wear a mask in their school and work communities.
On the advice of the Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health, for the 2022-2023 school year, most health and safety requirements remain unchanged from the previous direction provided to school board partners at the end of the 2021-2022 school year.
Continuing with this direction and based on the advice of the Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health, masks will not be required for students, staff and visitors in schools, school board offices, or on student transportation. Our schools continue to actively promote respectful, welcoming, and inclusive environments for individuals who choose to wear, or not to wear a mask within their school communities.
If your child should require masks this year, they will continue to be available upon request. Rapid Antigen Tests will also continue to be available for students and staff in schools upon request. Additionally, it is recommended that students, staff, and visitors continue to self-screen each day using the COVID-19 school and childcare screening tool.
Schools and school vehicles will continue to receive enhanced cleaning protocols for cleaning/disinfecting high-touch surfaces at least once daily. Additionally, significant improvements have been made to ventilation and filtration in CDSBEO facilities through the implementation of various measures across all schools. This includes improvements to existing ventilation systems, deployment of standalone HEPA filter units, upgrades to school ventilation infrastructure and increased transparency for students, parents, and staff. According to the Ministry of Education, increased absenteeism may indicate increased cases of COVID-19 or other respiratory or gastrointestinal infections in the school and board.
Finally, we continue, as we have for the duration of the pandemic, to comply with and follow all applicable public health and safety requirements within the schools and administrative offices of CDSBEO.
