Black History Month 2025: Black Legacy and Leadership
Celebrating Canadian History and Uplifting Future Generations
February is Black History Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the diversity, achievements, and excellence of Black Canadians who have shaped our country. This year’s theme, Black Legacy and Leadership: Celebrating Canadian History and Uplifting Future Generations, highlights the lasting impact of Black pioneers and leaders in politics, entertainment, sports, and social justice.
Honouring Resilience and Achievement
In keeping with our Church’s celebrations of the Jubilee Year, we are sharing the inspiring biographies and prayers of Black Canadian pioneers and luminaries who have made significant contributions to our society. These stories serve as powerful reminders of perseverance and hope. Our schools will engage in meaningful discussions, critical thinking activities, and storytelling that emphasize the ongoing impact of Black history. Students will have access to mentor texts and engaging resources that encourage reflection on the importance of Black history, not only in February but throughout the school year.
Special Guest Speaker: Jeff A.D. Martin
As part of our commitment to awareness and understanding, we are excited to welcome Jeff A.D. Martin, an award-winning speaker, author, and leadership coach, to speak with students and share his insights on leadership, diversity, and the importance of representation. On February 26, Jeff will also present to the CDSBEO Student Senate, the Parent Involvement Committee (PIC), and the Faith and Equity Advisory Committee (FEAC).
Reflection and Celebration
Black History Month is an opportunity to learn, reflect, and honour the rich contributions of Black Canadians. As we commemorate this month, we acknowledge the past, celebrate the present, and continue working toward a future where everyone feels valued and included.
