CDSBEO Students Shine at the 18th Annual Eastern Ontario SKLZ Event

St. Lawrence College in Cornwall recently hosted the 18th annual Eastern Ontario SKLZ event, bringing together talented students from across the region to showcase their skills in various trades and technical disciplines. Over 100 CDSBEO students from Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School, St. Joseph’s Catholic Secondary School, St. Matthew Catholic Secondary School, and St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic High School participated in a wide range of competitions.

CDSBEO students demonstrated their dedication and expertise across multiple categories, earning top placements and scholarships. Congratulations to the following students:
Hairstyling
- Gold – Keagan Marsolais (St. Matthew CSS), awarded a $1,500 bursary to Elegance College
- Bronze – Shilanna Bridson (St. Matthew CSS), awarded a $500 bursary to Elegance College
Aesthetics

New This Year: Grade 9 Construction Challenge
For the first time, the competition introduced a Grade 9 Construction Challenge, where teams of four students had to build a small doghouse from scratch using only hand tools. Ten CDSBEO teams competed in this new category:
- Silver – Cody Bernier, Jade Amell, Payton McDonald, and Kayleigh Forget (Holy Trinity CSS)
- Bronze – Josue Irandukunda, Grayson Cassleman, Daymon James, and James McIIwee
A special thank you goes to the staff at St. Lawrence College for their support in organizing and judging the competitions. The next stop in the competition series is the CDSBEO/UCDSB Hammer and Nails event at Local 93 in Ottawa. Winners from these events will advance to the Skills Ontario Provincial Competition in May.
