Eastern Ontario SKLZ Competition
On May 18, after a three-year hiatus, the popular Eastern Ontario SKLZ Competition was back in full swing once again!
Held in Cornwall at St. Lawrence College, St. Lawrence High School, St. Lawrence River Institute, and Elegance College, the day consisted of skilled trades events in carpentry, welding, small engine repair, cabinet making, environment, and hairstyling.
Eighty-six students from all ten CDSBEO secondary schools competed, with the highest number of female participants ever at the competition.
Awards:
Welding:
Silver – Liam Lalonde, St. Joseph Catholic Secondary School
Bronze – Joshua Robertson, Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School
Carpentry:
Silver – Sam Nicholson and Braiden Lockwood, St. Michael Catholic High School
Silver – Mitchell Van’t Hoff and Freddy Lang, St. Mary Catholic High School
Small Engine Repair:
Bronze – Cameron Malloy, St Joseph Catholic Secondary School
Environment:
Gold (tied) – Amber Laferriere and Lisa Diali Ding, Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School | Hassan Chaudhary and Fzoon Vi Hague, Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School

Stephen Rymal “Spirit of the SKLZ” Award
New this year was the Stephen Rymal “Spirit of the SKLZ” award, presented to the CDSBEO school that best embodied the spirit of the event through participation, collaboration, teamwork, and overall performance. This trophy is named after Steve Rymal, a long-time tech teacher at St. John Catholic High School and enthusiastic supporter of this annual event. Congratulations to Notre Dame Catholic High School for winning the award in its inaugural year!
