FSL Students Explore France Over March Break

Over the March Break, 40 FSL (French as a Second Language) students from St. Mary CHS, St. John CHS, St. Michael CHS, St. Joseph CSS, Holy Trinity CSS, and Notre Dame CHS had the opportunity to explore northern France. The trip allowed students to practice their French while experiencing the country’s rich history and culture firsthand.

The group visited significant historical sites, including the Vimy Memorial, Beaumont-Hamel, Dieppe, Juno Beach, and the Bény-sur-Mer Canadian War Cemetery. They also took in the sights of Mont-Saint-Michel, strolled through the charming streets of Saint-Malo, and explored major landmarks in Paris, such as the Louvre and Versailles. Many students rode the Paris metro for the first time and tackled thousands of stairs to reach incredible views. After a rainy start to spring, the group was fortunate to enjoy nine days of sunshine.

The trip was organized by a guide and tour company that provided excellent support, ensuring that students were comfortable and engaged. Staff chaperones were also dedicated to keeping students safe and making the experience as rewarding as possible. Most importantly, the students’ enthusiasm and willingness to immerse themselves in French culture made the trip a success.

A big thank you to everyone who helped make this trip possible. Experiences like these not only enhance our FSL programs but also inspire a lifelong love of language and culture.
