Regional Science Fairs
CDSBEO students impressed the judges with a strong showing at both the United Counties and Ottawa Regional Science Fairs this past weekend. Highlighting the inquisitive minds of our region, these fairs give our students a chance to showcase science projects related to innovation, experimentation, and research in a variety of fields.
United Counties Science Fair
Hudson Gibbs – “Wait! The Juice Trucks are Out?”
Grade 7, Iona Academy Catholic School
- Outstanding Research Award, sponsored by Ontario Power Generation ($200) (one of the top six projects in the fair)
- Melissa Ringler Memorial Award ($100) (excellence in chemistry)
- Elementary Teachers’ Federation Plaque (excellence in a junior experimental project)
- Parks Canada Trophy (best in environmental science)
- St. Lawrence College Technology and Trades Trophy (best in physical science)
- Rotary Club of Cornwall Plaque (best Junior project)
- All-Expenses-Paid Trip to Canada-Wide Science Fair in Edmonton, Alberta (one of the top projects)
Dolev Klein Harari – “An Earthshattering Coding Prophecy”
Grade 11, Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School
- Outstanding Research Award, sponsored by Ontario Power Generation ($200) (one of the top six projects in the fair)

Grace Vivaraies – “Can Sweet Potatoes be Re-Grown in Different Types of Liquids?

- Pommier Award (excellence in science)
- Dr. Leo F Kennedy Memorial Trophy (best Intermediate project)
- Silver Award, sponsored by Professional Engineers of Ontario, Upper Canada Chapter ($100)
