SHSM Health and Wellness Certification Fair 2024
On November 14, 2024, CDSBEO proudly hosted the SHSM Health and Wellness Certification Fair, bringing together senior students from across the board for an inspiring day of skill-building in Kemptville. Held at the North Grenville Municipal Centre and St. Michael Catholic High School, the event provided students with the opportunity to earn three certifications toward their Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) diploma.
The event also featured an engaging presentation from CESBA, highlighting the importance of experiential learning and pathways to success in health and wellness careers. CESBA is a provincial, non-profit professional association that represents, advocates for and supports adult and continuing education program staff working in more than 60 school boards across Ontario.
Throughout the day, students participated in a variety of interactive seminars, each offering practical knowledge and hands-on training from industry professionals.
The certifications available included:
- Animal First Aid
- Wrapping & Taping
- Stress Management Techniques
- Group Dynamics
- Infection Control
- Coaching
- Ambulation, Lifting, and Transfers
- Customer Service
- Fire Safety & Extinguisher Use
- Nutrition & Dietary Considerations
- Fitness & Personal Training
These sessions offered students a chance to deepen their understanding of the health and wellness sector while practicing real-world skills in areas critical to their future careers. By engaging directly with experienced professionals, students gained valuable insights, learned practical techniques, and had the opportunity to ask questions that connected classroom learning to real-life applications.
Through initiatives like the SHSM Health and Wellness Certification Fair, the CDSBEO is proud to support student success by equipping students with the skills, knowledge, and confidence they need to pursue their chosen career paths.
