St. Mary CHS Athlete Shines at Boston Meet
Grade 11 student Travis Gaffney of St. Mary Catholic High School was excited to compete at the New Balance Nationals Indoor Meet in Boston earlier this month and turned that excitement into a record-breaking effort at the international competition. On top of great results in all events, Travis left with the highest rank ever for a Canadian athlete in the under-18 two-mile run championship. As a comparison, Travis’ time was a full 10 seconds faster than the previous highest Canadian result for this distance in the U18 age group, and Travis leaves the competition as one of the fastest in Canada for his age in the one mile, 1,500 metre, and 3,000 metre categories.
Travis is focused on the upcoming OFSAA outdoor season and hopes to eventually compete at the university level.
The CDSBEO would like to congratulate Travis for his accomplishments, and we wish him the best of luck this season and beyond!
