World Suicide Prevention Day
Changing the Narrative on Suicide
September 10th is World Suicide Prevention Day. Suicide is a major public health challenge that has far-reaching social, emotional, and economic consequences, and deeply affects individuals and communities worldwide.
The theme for World Suicide Prevention Day for 2024-2026 is “Changing the Narrative on Suicide.” This theme aims to raise awareness about the importance of reducing stigma and encouraging open conversations to prevent suicides. Let’s change how we perceive this complex issue and shift from a culture of silence and stigma to one of openness, understanding, and support.
If you or someone you care about is experiencing thoughts of suicide, there is help. You can call or text 988 from anywhere across Canada. This helpline is available 24 hours a day/7 days a week.
